Fixed term position for 12 months

We are looking for an experienced, outgoing, proactive and successful Research and Opportunities Manager to join the Research Office at Wrexham Glyndwr University. You will be self-motivated and in an environment where you will need to autonomously manage your time to ensure that high quality proposals are submitted on time to funders as well as ensuring academic colleagues are aware of and engaging with opportunities. 

You will be outstanding at building relationships with the academic staff and understanding their expertise. You will then draw from the range of funding opportunities to support them in moving their research to the next level and achieving our challenging income targets. Ideally you will have an existing research profile to draw upon.

Your work will be guided by the Universities strategy for research and the KPIs in the associated action plans.

The post holder will have an excellent written English and will be expected to support academic colleagues in finding suitable funding routes for their research and assist in preparation of bids. Particular emphasis will be placed on bids to UKRI and similar funders. They will work closely with the Enterprise team and the existing bid writers who focus on bids to local authority and charity.  

The post holder will pro-actively develop our links with industry and encourage opportunities for research collaboration working closely with the Enterprise team. 

From time to time the post holder will be expected to deputise for the Head of the Research Services. 

Close relationships with funders in Wales and beyond are expected and the post holder will be expected to attend events with potential funders, HEFCW and Welsh Government as appropriate. 

The post holder will also work closely with the Graduate Development Tutor to support development sessions for staff in the area of funding and bid writing. 

The University holds the HR excellence in Research award and through its extensive array of training sessions honours the Concordat to support the career development of researchers. You will contribute to the support given.
