Vice-Chancellor’s Welcome

I am delighted that you are considering making an application for a post at our University, working in an ambitious, successful institution to provide a high quality student experience.

Wrexham University is entering an exciting new phase in its history and is driving academic excellence through a wide range of innovative and industry-relevant courses. Our region is a growing economic hub, bursting with ingenuity, creativity and ambition and we aim to be a major part of its growth as we work with industry and the government to harness the considerable talent found here.

Whilst Wrexham University is one of the newest universities in the country, established in 2008, its history goes back to our founding college in the 19th century (1887) when we were known as the Wrexham School of Science and Art. Our on-campus restaurant is called 1887 to celebrate this and our ability to combine subjects in the creative and technological fields is as true today as it was when we first started to offer degrees in 1924.

Many more discipline areas have been added over the years, including Engineering, Social and Health Sciences and Business.  Starting out with just our Wrexham campuses in 2008, we now have sites in St Asaph and Northop in North Wales. Our location in the cross-border region of Wales and England is reflected in the composition of our student population and staff teams.

Our ethos is to offer work-related learning, industry-relevant research and practice-informed teaching to our students, in a supportive environment meeting individual needs. If you can identify with these values, which permeate both our academic areas and our professional services, we would be very interested to hear from you.

We are committed to promoting and implementing best practice in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion to provide a working and learning environment where everyone is enabled to make a contribution to our success; valuing the benefits that a diverse and varied workforce can bring to our University community. We know that diversity fosters creativity and innovation. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where all belong. We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented within our workforce.

We have a number of staff networks who work closely with our student population to support inclusion, including the EDI Action Group, LGBTQ+ Staff Network, Access and Inclusion Group,  Faith & Religion Forum and Race Equality Group, who raise awareness, provide guidance and inform improvements for all.  We are delighted that we have been placed 41st in the Stonewall Top 100 Employer list for 2023 and continue to work to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment

Our staff receive competitive salaries, with high quality pension provision and excellent holidays alongside a range of staff social and well-being benefits. According to our recent employee survey, 92% of our colleagues consider the University a good place to work, which was 18% above the sector benchmark.

Whatever your job in the University may be, I hope that should you join us you will recognise the importance of your contribution as part of the whole University and its ambitions and that you will quickly feel part of the team.
