The Faculty of Social and Life Sciences is a thriving teaching and research environment looking to build its undergraduate and postgraduate student population. North Wales Business School (NWBS) forms a key part of the Faculty of Social and Life Sciences. The department delivers a range of high quality business programmes. Holding a degree in business equips students well for the world of work, whether this be employment within a commercial, charitable or public sector organisation or indeed in self-employment.

Graduates of business and related degrees have been shown to be more successful in achieving employment a short time after graduation than students of other subject areas. Graduates are sought after by employers because of their ability to understand the ways in which businesses function and therefore understand their own position within an organisation and how their role relates to success and interaction with other organisations. The business programmes at WGU include several pathways relevant to particular employment preferences and opportunities.

A strong grounding in the key aspects affecting contemporary organisations is required to enable graduates to develop a firm foundation for career development. This requires both academic and practice based knowledge in order to develop innovative curricula. Applicants with qualifications in accountancy and finance are particularly sought at this time.  Possessing a PhD or currently working towards is essential for this post.

We seek enthusiastic individuals who are able to draw on their own experience in the business world to bring learning to life with relevant examples. Contemporary approaches and professional experience will be highly valued. Therefore, WGU seeks to appoint professionals with the relevant experience to develop and deliver programmes and modules relevant to the contemporary workforce.

The post holder will be expected to deliver within a wide range of programmes within NWBS and the Faculty of Social and Life Sciences as appropriate. Drawing on theory and research as well as practice based insights into the commercial world, the role holder will enable students to understand and critique the key areas involved in contemporary business thereby enabling development into valued employees and managers of the future. There is an emphasis on making learning applicable to real work settings and it is developed through written assignments and practical relevant work-based tasks. Teaching will include variety of modules including accountancy and finance on undergraduate and postgraduate Business Studies and Management programmes.

The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the development of contemporary business programs and modules at WGU, working collaboratively, flexibly and collegially within a team and will demonstrate innovation through the design of the curriculum informed by research and relationships with external partners from relevant sectors.

The post holder will have a Masters Level Qualification, hold professional membership / accreditation where relevant and be committed to further professional and academic development in order to continually improve the curriculum offer. A teaching qualification relevant to Higher Education will be held, or commitment to achieving one will be required. To possess a doctoral qualification would be an advantage or a willingness to work towards is essential.

The commitment to developing innovative teaching practice such as online and blended approaches to learning and engaging with transnational education opportunities is required. Prior teaching/training experience is preferable.

The ability to speak Welsh and offer academic and pastoral support through the medium of Welsh as well as marking and providing feedback in Welsh would be highly valuable.
